Today I saw condensation on my bedroom window. I have been desperately trying to deny that autumn has arrived but this – along with conkers and darkness by 8pm – proves it. It is not that I dislike autumn – it is a beautiful season, often sunnier than summer and without the horseflies/wasps/vain attempts to develop a tan. However, the start of term seems to have arrived more abruptly than usual, perhaps due to the finality of the End of the Olympics & Paralympics, and all the associated British pride and emotion and general festivity that has pervaded London for over a month. Something has changed… the mornings are colder, and in our flat there hangs the inevitable dilemma: tights or no tights today?
